- Did you know?
A total of 276 reported pirate attacks were reported in 2005 The majority occurred in Southeast Asian waters followed by African coastal waters, India, South America and the Far East. Gun and knife use is now prevalent amongst pirates and, while some vessels are able to outmanoeuvre speedboat attacks, sailing yachts are particularly vulnerable because of their relative slow speed and low freeboard.

In case it’s not all plain sailing... Realistic training that tackles real threats
Project
Providing onboard crew training in preparation for security incidents at sea and whilst alongside. The yacht was returning from the Seychelles and was due to stop in several countries including Egypt, Lebanon and Israel.

Challenge
The training needed to provide the correct level of realism without impacting on the day to day operation of the yacht and to ensure that both the security of the yacht and crew were considered.

Solution
MAST delivered lectures and exercises specific to the vessel and its programme. Onboard drills and exercises were planned and intelligence updates received in relation to each port of visit.

Benefits
Feedback was very positive. All of the crew members were more confident of their roles in an emergency situation and their own personal security when ashore.
