Going the distance
Project
Protection of 54m sailing yacht on a return journey from Antibes to the Seychelles.
Challenge
In recent times the southern areas of the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and up to 250 nm off the Somalian Coast in the Indian Ocean have shown an increase in piracy activity. The client wanted to ensure the absolute protection of his vessel during the passage to and from the Seychelles.
Solution
Every detail of the journey was planned and a comprehensive communications and emergency plan prepared for both the yacht and the yacht manager based in Monaco. A team of MAST personnel onboard were in continuous contact with MAST’s Operations Centre. The Centre tracked the yacht’s position and notified the United Nations deployed task force , CTF150 of her position. MAST organised the carriage of firearms and other personal protection equipment in strict accordance with each territory’s law. MAST’s ongoing training ensured that all onboard were well versed in emergency protocol. MAST also provided the ship's crew with security awareness briefings and information on how to behave when travelling in the Middle East.
Benefits
A complex security operation involving the temporary embarkation of firearms was successfully executed without delay. As well as the high standard of crew training, the client was particularly pleased with the discreet security presence.
